CANCELLATION OR DELAY OF SCHOOL
The procedures outlined below will be followed in the event that school has to be cancelled or a delayed opening is necessary due to inclement weather or other emergency situations. Decisions to cancel or delay the opening of school will be based upon the most current weather forecasts available and reports of road conditions.
If weather conditions require that schools will be closed, a School Messenger communication will be sent and announcements will be posted on our website, www.derbyps.org, on www.ctweather.com and the following radio stations and television stations by 6:30 a.m.:
AM: WICC-60 WELI-960
FM: STAR 99.9 WEBE 108 KC101
Television Stations: Channel 8 News, Channel 3 News, Channel 30 News
Weather conditions may indicate the need to delay the starting time of school rather than closing for the entire day. When this occurs, a 2 hour delayed opening announcement will be made through School Reach and on the above radio and television stations by 6:30 a.m. When the District operates on a 2 hour delay, busses will run approximately two hours behind schedule. The delayed starting time schedules will be as follows:
DELAYED OPENING/EARLY CLOSING TIMES
School Late Start
2 Hour Delay Early Dismissal
K – 5 11:00 a.m. - 3:25 p.m. 12:55 p.m.
K – 5 10:00 a.m. - 2:25 p.m. 11:55 a.m.

Little Raider University 11:00a.m. – 3:00 p.m. 12:55 p.m.
Weather conditions or emergency situations may necessitate the need for an early dismissal to ensure the safety of our children. Should this occur the district will utilize our School Reach system to notify parents and guardians. Early dismissal announcements will also be made on our website www.derbyps.org, www.ctweather.com site and the radio and television stations listed on the preceding page throughout the morning hours.
We understand that early dismissals are the most difficult types of closing because many parents and guardians have to make alternate arrangements for their children. Please discuss with your children the possibility of having them enter your home or go to a neighbor’s home if no one is at home during the day in the event of an early closing.
