Ashley Bowns- Head Athletic Trainer

Ashley Bowns ATC, LAT is the Head Athletic Trainer at Derby High School. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Athletic Training from Southern Connecticut State University in May 2016. Ashley became certified as an Athletic Trainer by the BOC in April 2016.

She is employed by Select Physical Therapy Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation located at 2 Ivy Brook Road Suite 213 in Shelton, CT and is contracted to care for the student athletes at Derby High.

What is an Athletic Trainer?

“Certified Athletic Trainers are healthcare professionals who collaborate with physicians to optimize activity and participation of patients and clients. Athletic Training encompasses the prevention, diagnosis, and intervention of emergency, acute, and chronic medical conditions involving impairment, functional limitations and disabilities. Athletic Training is recognized by the American Medical Association as a healthcare profession.” -Board of Certification

Are they qualified?

All certified and/or licensed Athletic Trainers must have a Bachelor's or Master's Degree from an accredited college or university and pass the Board of Certification National Exam in order to practice as an Athletic Trainer.
